ISVA team recognised by Isle of Wight Area Commander
Hampton Trust’s Independent Sexual Violence Advisers have been recognised by the police Isle of Wight Area Commander for their outstanding work supporting survivors in a complex non-recent case involving multiple victims.
Deborah Gearing, Judi King, Mickayla Mulholland, and Shanice Harris received the Area Commander’s Certificate of Congratulations for their outstanding dedication to victim care, ensuring all four survivors were supported throughout a complex case. Their compassionate coordination and consistent reassurance enabled survivors to give evidence safely and confidently.
Their combined efforts alongside the police resulted in an 18-year conviction in April 2025 for Keith Matthews from Wootton Bridge on eight counts of non-recent sexual offences against three children in Ryde and East Cowes between 1994 and 2012.
Deborah Gearing, ISVA Service Manager, said:
I am incredibly proud of the ISVA team for receiving this award from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, presented by the Area Commander. This recognition means a great deal, as it reflects the dedication, compassion, and professionalism the team showed throughout what was an extremely sensitive and challenging case.
“The team worked tirelessly to ensure that every survivor felt supported, believed, and empowered at each stage of the criminal justice process. Their focus was always on the needs of the survivors, helping them to build the resilience and confidence required to remain engaged with proceedings and to have their voices heard.
“This was not easy work, but the commitment shown by the ISVA team was unwavering. The outcome of the case, which resulted in the perpetrator receiving an 18‑year prison sentence, highlights the importance of specialist support alongside effective partnership working with the police.
“I could not be prouder of the team and the difference we continue to make in the lives of survivors every day. This award is truly deserved and is a testament to our skill, empathy, and determination.”
