Hampton Trust supports partnership awareness campaign during football World Cup

Today marks the start of the 2026 Men’s FIFA World Cup, and while football brings excitement and community spirit for many, it also signals a period of heightened risk for those experiencing harmful behaviours in their home.

Research shows that domestic abuse reports rise by around 25% during major football tournaments, regardless of match results. At Hampton Trust, we know from our work with people causing harm that high-emotion periods — where stress, alcohol and tension combine — can trigger behaviour that has serious and lasting consequences for partners, children and families.

Support for people who want to change

We work with people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight who want to address their behaviour in relationships. Our early intervention options are available to anyone who is ready to take that step. Self-referrals are welcome, and you don’t need to wait for a crisis point to reach out.
We offer space to talk, reflect, and build confidence in handling difficult situations. Whatever your circumstances, we’re here to listen and support you in making the changes that matter to you.

Supporting the Hampshire Domestic Abuse Partnership campaign

Throughout the tournament, we are proud to be supporting the Hampshire Domestic Abuse Partnership’s (HDAP) awareness campaign, which runs from now until 19 July. The campaign aims to reach people across Hampshire with the message that help is available, whether you are experiencing abuse or recognise that your own behaviour may be causing harm to those around you.

If you are worried about your behaviour and are ready to seek help, you can call us on 023 8000 9898 or fill in a self-referral.

For victim-survivors seeking support, the HDAP Advice Line (run by Stop Domestic Abuse) is free and confidential: 03300 165 112, or visit hants.gov.uk/domesticabuse.
